Roxanne’s Community Service & Leadership

Leadership from academia to entrepreneurship, to politics and community service, believe that Roxanne is among the next wave of exceptional leadership, at any level.

State Representative Hazelle Rogers, who currently represents district 95 has been among those rating her highly for her leadership abilities, competences and proficiencies. Having sought her assistance and having worked with Roxanne Valies on numerous projects in her district in the past eight years, the State Rep has illustrated confidence in Roxanne Valies' abilites.

Roxanne’s impact at the influential Lauderhill Regional Chamber of Commerce (LRCC) was such that she became the first President selected to serve two consecutive terms (2011-2013). Roxanne illustrated visionary leadership, as she strategically founded the accompanying Lauderhill Regional Chamber of Commerce Foundation to better support that portion of the Chamber’s mission that benefits residents directly and thus leads by example in practicing good corporate citizenship. Whether lobbying for increased city funding or advocating on behalf of members in front of the County Commission, she would passionately speak to the facts and look for ways to satisfy all stakeholders.

Her leadership skills have been recognized at a national level as well. Roxanne was privileged to be invited as a delegate to Hillary Clinton’s inaugural Diaspora Forum (2011), where she weighed in on how migrant communities can be utilized to enhance the work of the US State Department.

As a ranking board member of the Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS), the Washington, DC based think tank that fought for the observance of June as Caribbean American Heritage Month (CAHM), her most satisfying and rewarding roles include, chairing their annual Legislative Forum in the nation’s capital and her work with the 2010 and 2020 census as the ICS Liaison to the US Census Bureau. The Census affects how approximately $400 billion federal dollars are distributed annually, to ensure that our communities get their fair share; Roxanne gladly brought her national advocacy local.

In the year leading up to the 2010 Census, she was called to serve on the Broward County Complete Count committee, convened by then County Commissioner, Ilene Lieberman, dealing with hard to count migrant communities from all backgrounds. She used her influence to have the Lauderhill Chamber serve as a Questionnaire Assistant Center for the US Census Bureau, bringing employment and information to the community, and setting the LRCC on a path to cultivating high caliber partnerships.
